21st CENTURY: A THREAT TO SELF-DETERMINATION
Throughout history, humans have always searched to freely determine their own path, and rights have emerged around this need. Nevertheless, this necessity that has become a principle has not been reached at all, and the 21st century has been a proof of the violation of this controversial right called, Self-Determination. Self-Determination is defined as “the right of people to determine its own destiny, by choosing its own political status and to determine its own form of economic, cultural and social development. In no case may a people be deprived of its own meaning of subsistence.”
To seek for the SOCHUM committee objectives to be accomplished, we hope that as
delegates you could reach diplomatic solutions among nations and recognize that the dignity
of human beings is at stake.
PREVENTING INTERNATIONAL CRIME AND STRENGHTENING JUSTICE SYSTEMS
The United Nations was created after one of the most deadly wars of all history. This institution has the goal to protect international peace, help develop all the nations and most importantly to protect each human right. Unfortunately, since the creation of the UN, humanity has witnessed genocides, crimes against humanity and other actions that violate the well being of societies.
Although that along the United Nations, governments have taken actions to eradicate any type of crime; these violations have also been committed by the government itself or government officials. In addition to that, the Justice Systems of some countries have shown lack of effectiveness, for example the cases where penalties are corrupted by third parties or other cases where there is no penalty at all for the responsibles of multitudinous atrocities.
The SOCHUM committee has the responsibility to change that. To prevent all international crimes as possible, and once again search viable solutions for the well development of non-corrupt practices in Justice Systems.
