TORTURE AND FORCED CONFESSIONS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
In a new era, where criminal activity has increased, torture and forced confessions have been flourishing worldwide as well, often in the face of official denial. These types of conducts have raised serious questions concerning a chain of events by which innocent citizens are judged and tortured on official interrogations with the justification of finding the truth. The questions are: does the end justify the means? Can there be justification for torture? Does it ever reveal the truth?
The belief in one true religion has been the cause of conflict in the world or has been the justification for it throughout many years; however, religion has been misguidedly used to justify war and colonization nowadays more than ever. Around the world, we live in a disturbing scenery of intolerance and hate-based violence targeting worshipers of many faiths, not only by the citizens of the countries but from government officials as well. If no actions are taken, global violence in the name of religion will continue to be fomented, which will continue to lead to the violation of human rights and other illegalities, distorting not only the region where it’s happening but all the international community.
